"DENIM TO DIAMONDS" 2009 DINNER & AUCTION

A RUN-AWAY HIT!

We’re happy to report that the NWTRC annual Denim to Diamonds Dinner/Auction raced to a sold out event! Over 150 people converged on the Elks Club (on a rainy night) and raised over 16,000 dollars!! These funds represent over a quarter of NWTRC’s annual operating costs. We are grateful to all of our guests for coming out to support this important and enjoyable event. Thanks so much.

Our delightful and famous Mistress of Ceremonies, Audra Shroeder of the Cascade Radio Station KGMI, provided an elegant touch in directing the evening’s program. The Bellingham Early Music Group entertained during the early evening with lovely string music, headed up by John Rawlins.

The highlight of the evening program featured an insightful video documentary of our riding program starring its riders, parents, horses and volunteers. The video was created by our two WWU interns, Kendra Moerlein and Corinna Adams. Next, long-time NWTRC rider Laura Ann Rawlins, depicted her enduring love for D.T., her NWTRC horse, in a beautifully written poem.

A big thanks to our Event Chairperson, Pamela Cady, for organizing this "multi faceted" occasion. There are many things that go into the planning and implementing of this successful event. Huge thanks to all of you who made it happen: Auction Committee members Jeri Davis (basket maker extraordinaire), Jill DeCook, Crystal Simmons, Corinna Adams, Jenny Mount, Danielle Shimota, Nicky Bretttoner, Julia Bozzo and Dorene Moors.

Our spectacular dessert tables displayed so many beautiful delicacies donated by local bakeries and home chefs! Thank you to Kelly Rosebrock, Jamie Crawford and Enid Wilson for organizing the successful and delightful dessert auction.

Also – a really big thanks to the inimitable Charles McGibbon and his two sidekicks for "Auctioneering" – we all had a great time bidding for our chosen items. Of course, we truly appreciate the Elks Lodge for all their hospitality and help!

We’re so grateful to Head Chef Phil Simmons and his "Posse", (Becky, Matt and Lyndsey Simmons, Brent, Cedar and Crystal Simmons) and Mike Bozzo, who once again produced a wonderful Salmon & Chicken dinner, plus contributing auction items, table sponsorships and auction help. Leslie Gesner, Skip Ness, Dorene Moors, Jenny Mount greeted our guests, served dinner and tallied the totals at the end of the evening. Our Volunteen Core were "jewels" - setting tables, decorating and clean up. Many thanks to Deanna, Danielle B., Ryan, Danielle S., Nick, Kagan, Leah, Marren, Ana, Molly Scott, Molly Smith, Schylar, Dalton and Kylee. These Volunteens can always be counted on! Also, thanks to the younger set, including Frances and Grace Sauter , Brittany Kuiper and Christin Moors.
