COVID-19 Phases, Policies & Procedures

Thank you for your patience as we navigate a slow start to resuming classes.
We know everyone is looking forward to coming back. We are doing our best to serve those we can during each phase. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding. What a great day it will be to see everyone’s smiling faces back at the barn and back in the saddle!

Services will be offered using a phased entry approach. Phases and their descriptions will be detailed below. 

  • Sanitizing and social distancing procedures will be implemented for everyone’s safety.
  • Policies and procedures outlined in this plan are subject to change at any time, based on local, federal, industry and insurance mandates that are issued, or suggested.
  • All volunteers and riders wishing to resume sometime in 2020 must complete Returning Participant Assessment or the Returning Volunteer Assessment.
  • Everyone coming to NWTRC must complete the NEW Liability Release form that includes risks of COVID-19. Other paperwork will need to be updated as well, if over a year old, prior to resuming.

Phase 1 (Whatcom County Phase 1) April 6- June 21

  • Virtual Lessons
  • Limited essential volunteers to assist with barn chores and exercising horses
  • Physical distancing, cleaning & sanitizing procedures in place
  • Prepare phased reopening plan

Phase 2 (Whatcom County Phase 2) June 22- July 17

  • All paperwork completed & fees paid before lessons
  • Attend virtual participant/ parent orientation on Zoom
  • 100% independent riders (no volunteer support)
  • Participants can mount & dismount independently
  • Individual masks & helmets required
  • No grooming or tacking done by participants
  • Limited volunteers to assist with barn chores and readying horses for lessons
  • Viewing area limited to 1 support person per participant

Phase 3 (Whatcom County Phase 3) July 20- August 14

  • All paperwork completed & fees paid before lessons
  • Attend virtual participant/ parent orientation on Zoom
  • Riders who only require a horse leader
  • Can mount & dismount independently or with minimal assistance
  • Individual masks & helmets required
  • No grooming or tacking done by participants
  • Limited volunteers to assist with barn chores, readying horses and leading in lessons
  • Viewing area open to 1 support person per participant

Phase 4 (Whatcom County Phase 4) Fall Session (hopefully!)

  • All Paperwork Completed & fees paid before lessons
  • Attend virtual participant/ parent orientation on Zoom
  • Riders who require a horse leader & sidewalkers (dependent on physical distancing guidelines)
  • Individual masks & helmets required (dependent on guidelines)
  • Volunteers to assist with barn chores, readying horses, leading and sidewalking in lessons
  • Viewing area open with physical distancing guidelines
